Voluntary People's Squad ( VND ) is a Soviet and Russian voluntary organization that provides assistance to state law enforcement agencies in maintaining public order , protecting the state border , at the level of an enterprise , collective farm , house management , street or village .

In the USSR, volunteer squads had the status of public amateur organizations , their tasks were to fight crime , assist border troops in protecting the state border, prevent and suppress violations of public order and conduct educational work with the population in cooperation with government agencies [1] . In their activities, the squads received assistance from the state, Komsomol , party and trade union organizations.
