When we think of the Wild West of the 1800's we think of drunken violence, saloon-filled streets, gun-toting hors dement, lynch law, corrupt mayors and politically appointed law-men in remote, lawless communities. We think of stage coaches and of besieged townships saved by the dramatic arrival of the cavalry. And we think of Tombstone and Dodge City.
But we can think again! In the 1800's West ales had its own Dodge City ., and they called it Carmarthen!
This is the story of Carmarthen own law-men - its twelve coppers - the 'Carmarthen Shilling' - the men who tamed, father, nearly tamed their wild townsmen.
